The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting – Instructor-Led course is an in-person, beginner-friendly firearm training program taught by a certified NRA instructor. Designed for new and aspiring gun owners, this class emphasizes safety, marksmanship, and real-world pistol handling skills in a supportive, hands-on environment.

Course topics include:

• NRA’s three rules for safe gun handling
• Pistol parts and operation (semi-auto and revolver)
• Ammunition types and function
• Fundamentals of pistol shooting
• Shooting positions
• Cleaning and maintenance
• Firearm storage and transportation
• Range safety and etiquette
• Common stoppages and malfunctions
• NRA live-fire qualification

Training begins in the classroom using the Laser Ammo Smokeless Range simulator and Glock 19 gas-recoil IR training guns. These advanced tools help students build confidence and accuracy before progressing to live-fire exercises.

Following simulator training, students will head to the range for live qualification. The course includes instruction in:

• Pistol safety and handling
• Ammunition function and storage
• Shooting fundamentals and grip control
• Common pistol malfunctions and cleaning
• Range rules and etiquette

Included in your $160 course fee:

• Full day of in-person training
• Simulator time using Glock 19 gas-recoil IR pistols
• Live-fire session at the range
• NRA printed student manual and class materials
• NRA qualification attempt for Level 1 (Red)
• Range fees included for Level 1 qualification

Students who wish to attempt higher levels—Level 2 (White), Level 3 (Blue), or Instructor qualification—may do so at an additional $35. We rent a private bay for qualifications and only schedule one hour for qualifications. Be aware that we may not be allowed to stay on the private bay past out one hour slot if it has been reserved by another group.

This course concludes with a live-fire NRA qualification and a certificate of completion. It’s the perfect first step toward responsible gun ownership, personal defense training, or advanced marksmanship development.
